Memento Park: the 3,000 forint ticket, and the bus exit that decides whether you pay

Prices, hours and transport read from the park's own site on 19 October 2026

Quick answer:
  • Admission is 3,000 HUF, about 8.26 euros. Students 1,800, under-14s 1,200, under-6s free.
  • Open every day, 10:00 to 17:00. Not until dusk, and not until 18:00.
  • At Kelenfold, the Ormezo exit keeps your Budapest Card valid. The Etele ter exit does not.
  • The park's own guided tour is 7,200 HUF with admission in, but only Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 11:15.
  • There is no direct bus from the city centre. Everything goes via Kelenfold, which is the southern end of the M4.

Tickets, hours and the guided tour

Memento Park is the open-air collection where Budapest put the statues it took down after 1989 rather than destroying them. It sits 10 kilometres south-west of the centre, inside the city boundary but far enough out that getting there is most of the planning.

Two things about that guided tour, because the second one catches people out. It runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, and it leaves at 11:15. If you are in Budapest Monday to Thursday, the scheduled tour does not exist for you at any price, and the choice narrows to walking around on your own or booking a tour that runs on other days.

The park takes cash in forints and in euros, cards, and the Hungarian SZEP card. That is worth knowing because the ticket office is the last building for some distance.

Getting there, and the exit that costs you

Every route starts the same way: metro line M4 to Kelenfold railway station, the southern terminus. Then a bus. And the bus is where it gets expensive if you pick the wrong door: Kelenfold has two exits, they lead to two different sets of buses, and only one set takes your Budapest Card.

Exit at KelenfoldBusesFrequencyBudapest Card
Ormezo101B, 101E, 150Every 10 to 30 minValid
Etele ter710, 712, 715, 720, 722, 725, 727Every 10 to 30 minNot valid
From the park's own public transport page, read 19 October 2026. The Etele ter services are regional buses, which is why the city card does not cover them; 24 and 72-hour travel passes do cover both. Single tickets cost 500 HUF from a machine and 750 HUF from the driver.

So if you are carrying a Budapest Card, walking out of the wrong side of the same station turns a free journey into a paid one in each direction. It is not a large sum, 1,000 forint for the return if you buy at a machine, but it is entirely avoidable: the two exits are signposted inside the station.

Take the bus towards Budatetany and get off at the Memento Park stop. Driving is also an option and an unusually easy one for Budapest: the park has free unguarded parking for cars and coaches, which is not something you can say about anywhere in the centre.

The four ways, priced

Put the transport and the admission together and the real choice looks like this. All four include getting there and back from the centre.

How you do itCost per personCatch
On your own4,000 HUF, about €11.02No context. It is a field of statues with short plaques
The park's scheduled tour8,200 HUF, about €22.58Friday, Saturday and Sunday only, 11:15

Trabant transfer€69.67 at three people€209 per car, maximum three, booked by email in advance
Admission plus a 500 HUF machine ticket each way, except the Trabant transfer, which the park prices at 209 euros per car including admission, a guided tour and a drink. Park prices read 19 October 2026, tour price read the same day.

The line worth reading twice is the third one. The guided tour below is run by Memento Park itself, the same people and the same tour as the 7,200 forint one at the gate, at 25 euros instead of 19.83. You are paying about a quarter more, and what that buys is a date: the gate version only exists Friday to Sunday, and this one does not have that limit. If you are there at a weekend and happy to turn up at 11:15, buy at the gate and keep the difference.

Guided Tour with Admission in Memento Park

4.9 · 67 reviews

Sixty to seventy minutes with an English-speaking guide, admission included, in groups capped at 15. The operator on the listing is Memento Park, so this is the park's own tour sold ahead rather than a third party reselling entry. Worth it on a weekday, when the 7,200 forint version at the gate does not run; less obviously worth it at a weekend, when the same tour at the ticket office is about 26 percent cheaper. You still have to get yourself out there, which is roughly 40 minutes and 500 forint each way. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Price and rating read on 19 October 2026.

What is actually out there

It helps to know the shape of the place before you commit half a day to it, because it is not a museum. It is a walled open-air park laid out in figure-of-eight loops, with the statues standing on concrete pads and short plaques. Lenin, Marx and Engels are there, along with Soviet soldiers, Hungarian party figures and the allegorical monuments that dictatorships produce by the dozen.

A large weathered bronze figure striding forward with one arm flung up towards the sky, standing on a bare concrete slab against a red brick wall and open countryside
The scale is the argument. These were built to be looked up at from a city square and they are now standing in a field with the sky behind them. Photographed by Pudelek, CC BY-SA 4.0.

There is an exhibition building with a cinema, a Trabant, a phone box and a replica of the grandstand that the statue of Stalin once stood on. The park opens at 10:00 and closes at 17:00 every day of the year, which means the last bus you want to be on from the centre leaves around 15:00 if you intend to see it properly rather than jog round it.

Practical notes

  • It is outdoors and exposed. No shade worth the name between the statues, no shelter in rain. Weather decides more here than at any indoor attraction in the city.
  • Parking is free, for cars and for coaches, and unguarded. If you have a car in Budapest this is the easy day out.
  • Pay the bus fare at a machine, not the driver. 500 forint against 750, each way, for the same seat.
  • Combine it with nothing. It is in the XXII district and there is nothing else out there, so treat it as its own half day rather than trying to bolt it onto a day trip.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Memento Park cost?

Admission is 3,000 HUF for an adult, about 8.26 euros. Students pay 1,800 and children under 14 pay 1,200. Under-6s go free. The park's own scheduled guided tour is 7,200 HUF with admission included. Prices read from mementopark.hu on 19 October 2026.

What time does Memento Park open?

Every day from 10:00 to 17:00, all year. The park prints those hours in the header of every page of its own site, so if you see a later closing time somewhere, check the date on it.

How do you get to Memento Park by public transport?

Metro line M4 to Kelenfold railway station, then a bus. Take the Ormezo exit for buses 101B, 101E or 150, which your Budapest Card covers. The Etele ter exit has buses 710 to 727, which the Budapest Card does not cover, though 24 and 72-hour travel passes do.

Is there a direct bus to Memento Park from the city centre?

No. The park's own transport page lists only the Kelenfold connection, by metro line M4 and then a bus. If you want door to door, the park sells a Trabant transfer at 209 euros per car for up to three people, with admission and a guided tour included.

How long do you need at Memento Park?

The park's own guided tour runs 60 to 90 minutes, and the Viator version lists 60 to 70. Add roughly 40 minutes each way from the centre, so a half day covers it comfortably.

Is Memento Park worth the trip?

It depends on whether you want the history or the photograph. It is an open-air field of communist-era statues 10 kilometres out, not a museum with displays, so people who want context tend to rate the guided version far higher than the walk-around.
