Instant-Fogas: Entry Is Free, and Which of the Seven Rooms to Pick

Read from the venue's own site and its event listings on 1 October 2026

Quick answer:

Entry is free. The operator says so on its home page and again, in Hungarian, on the listing for its weekly club nights. It is open 6pm to 6am every single day and it is 18+, which appears on the event listings and not on the front page, so almost nobody repeats it. Inside are seven separate rooms with seven different sounds across 1,100 square metres, and the thing worth knowing before you go: they do not all open every night.

The shuttered grey doors of the ROBOT venue under its black sign on Akacfa utca in Budapest, in a building whose render has fallen away to bare brick, with the painted Mazel Tov panels on the next building along
Robot, one of the seven rooms, shuttered in the afternoon sun. This is what the street looks like at the hour most visitors walk down it, and it is why people think the place is closed down rather than closed until six.

Is there an entry fee?

No. This is the question the whole internet seems unable to answer in writing, and the answer is on the venue's own site in two separate places. The home page carries the words FREE ENTRY above everything else, and the listing for the regular weekly club night puts it in Hungarian: ingyenes belépés. You pay for drinks and nothing else.

What that same listing adds, and the home page does not, is that it is 18 and over. We have not found a single guide that mentions it. If you are travelling with someone who is seventeen, that is the sentence that matters on this page.

What the resellers are selling

Because the complex is free to enter, it is worth being clear about what the paid options around it actually are. One nightlife site advertises free entrance until 8pm and a free shot as a benefit of its pass, at a venue the operator advertises as free with no time limit attached. We cannot tell you which of those two is right. Either the pass is selling you something you already have, or there is a cover charge at some hour that the venue does not publish. From outside the building there is no way to settle it, so we are not going to pretend otherwise.

A guided crawl is a different proposition and an honest one, because what it sells is not the door. It sells a group, a guide, the drinks and the queue.

Budapest Ruin Pub Crawl: 6 Free Shots, VIP Entries and Drinking Games

4.9 · 1,020 reviews

Six hours across several ruin bars with a guide, six shots included, and the operator's own inclusions list VIP access to Instant-Fogas by name, which is the reason it is on this page rather than another. What you are buying is the shots, the guide and skipping the door queue on a busy night: getting in is free either way. It starts on Dohany utca, a few minutes from here, and it is rated 4.95 across more than a thousand reviews, the best of anything we list. Minimum age 16, and remember the complex itself is 18+.

The seven rooms, and which one you want

Calling Instant-Fogas a bar undersells the problem. It is seven venues joined together, each with its own name, its own room and its own music, and you can walk between them all night without paying anything. The decision is not whether to go. It is which door to stand in front of.

RoomWhat plays thereGo if you want
RobotRock anthems, in what the venue calls its rock and roll caveGuitars, and the room with its own door on the street
UnterweltInternational R&B and hip hop, top hits, remixes, video discosThe big singalong
LevelElectro, on a tuned system in a deliberately bare roomTo dance properly, with no distractions
FogasElectronic, old-school, and it has a gardenElectronic music but also fresh air
FrameBroken beats and latin, the newest of the sevenSomething other than four to the floor
InstantThe ruin pub proper, with a dance floor and a billiard roomThe classic ruin bar look, inside the complex

Liebling is the one to remember. Every complex like this has a room where you can talk, and it is the one nobody tells you about because it is not where the photographs get taken.

They do not all open every night

Here is the detail that is in none of the videos. Seven rooms exist. A given night opens a subset of them. The listing for the regular Thursday night names five, Instant, Fogas, Frame, Robot and Unterwelt, which leaves Liebling and Level out of that particular evening.

So if you are going for one specific room, and especially if that room is the quiet one, check that night's listing before you walk over. It takes a minute and it is the difference between the night you planned and a different one.

Against Szimpla Kert

These two get named in the same sentence constantly and they are not the same kind of night. Szimpla Kert is the original, and it is mostly somewhere to look at and drink in. The building is the attraction. Instant-Fogas is a club complex that runs until six in the morning and the attraction is the dancing.

Both are free to walk into, which means the honest plan is to do both: Szimpla early, while you can still see it, and then come here when it gets late. They are a few minutes apart. The full ruin bar comparison puts all of them side by side, including two that closed years ago and are still on other people's lists, and Mazel Tov, two doors down this same street, is a restaurant rather than a bar whatever the lists say.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an entry fee at Instant-Fogas?

No. Entry is free, and the operator says so in two places: on its own home page and on the listing for its regular club nights, which puts it in Hungarian as ingyenes belepes. What you pay for is drinks. If a site is offering to sell you free entry, read carefully what you are actually buying.

Is Instant-Fogas 18+?

Yes, and this is the detail worth carrying: the age limit appears on the event listings, not on the front page of the website, so most guides miss it. Bring ID.

What time does Instant-Fogas open and close?

Six in the evening until six in the morning, every day of the week. Turning up at opening time means an almost empty complex, which some people want and most do not.

How many rooms does Instant-Fogas have?

Seven, each with its own name and its own music: Instant, Unterwelt, Liebling, Level, Fogas, Frame and Robot, across 1,100 square metres of dance floor. They are not all open every night. The Thursday listing, for instance, names five of them.

Which room at Instant-Fogas should I go to?

It depends entirely on what you want to hear. Robot is rock, Unterwelt is R&B and hip hop, Level is electro, Fogas is electronic with a garden, Frame is latin and broken beats, Instant is the ruin pub proper with a billiard room, and Liebling is the quiet one for talking rather than dancing.

Is Instant-Fogas better than Szimpla Kert?

They are different things that both get called ruin bars. Szimpla is the original and is mostly a place to look at and drink in, busiest from mid-evening. Instant-Fogas is a club complex that runs until six in the morning. Go to Szimpla early for the building and come here later if you want to dance.

Where is Instant-Fogas?

Akacfa utca 49 to 51, in District VII. It is the same street as Mazel Tov, which is at number 47, and a few minutes from Szimpla Kert on Kazinczy utca. Its Robot room has its own door on the street.
